Motion Picture Industry Week 2009 (MPIW)

This year, Motion Picture Industry Week events will be 'Celebrating the Future of BC's Creative Economy'.

British Columbia's motion picture sector can be proud of its contribution to the economic and artistic diversity of the province, and the talent and infrastructure that has been developed here over the past three decades.

Looking ahead in 2009, MPIW will highlight BC's motion picture industry and its achievements, as well as the potential for growth and convergence in the burgeoning digital entertainment sector. Industry Week celebrates that potential, as British Columbia's creative industries are poised to capitalize in new ways on a well earned niche as a sophisticated centre for production.

With an eye to the future, primary Industry Week themes this year include the Reel Green environmental movement and industry career paths at Career Expo '09. Industry Week will also salute BC filmmakers at a special screening event to be hosted by the First Weekend Club, and the week's activities will culminate in the Pacific Cinématèque's Gala event 'SCENE' - not to be missed, tickets are limited.

Charitable giving remains an important part of Industry Week to show appreciation for the cooperative role that BC communities play in the province's motion picture industry. With the Greater Vancouver Food Bank as MPPIA's charitable partner again in 2009, fundraising and 'food raising' will take place across industry locations throughout the month of November to ensure an ample contribution from the industry that will reach as many people as possible. Supporters are encouraged to go to foodbank.ca to make their own contributions.

Established in 2002, the Motion Picture Production Industry Association of BC (MPPIA) is a member-based, volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to a strong and sustainable future for BC's motion picture industry.
